The pains of running a bird database

I realized that organizing and maintaining this site is actually going to be extremely confusing and tedious. Initially I was going to organize the gallery by Group -> Species, but then I learned that there is 4,000 species that are categorized as Songbirds. Within that I could separate by continent, but if that’s comprehensive logic then I’d have 4 categories for penguins when there’s only 18 species of them. Therefor it’d make sense to organize not by location but within subgroups within the main groups. So instead of all the species inside of songbirds it should actually be for example songbirds -> corvids -> fish crow. And every species of corvid no matter the continent would appear in corvids. However some species don’t share a family with any other bird. Example, Ospreys are in a unique family, so birds of prey is going to appear as birds of prey -> Eagles, Hawks, Osprey, Owls, which looks odd. But what other solution is there??? And on top of that, the real scientific groups and families are complex and scientists are constantly changing around what bird belongs to group and how many different species there are.

All that being said, I’m just going to organize off what sounds right, so while it’ll be mostly scientifically correct, there’s no way this site will be 100% correctly labeling what bird belongs to what group. I suppose it doesn’t really matter to the audience but as a perfectionist this will likely drive me crazy. At least the photos look nice.
